YEAR: 2016

LOCATION: north brooklyn, ny

THEMES: land use, zoning, industrial workspace, gentrification, displacement

This series of maps explore the effects of the Bloomberg rezonings on lands uses and the social fabric in North Brooklyn, especially within the North Brooklyn and Greenpoint-Williamsburg Industrial Business Zones. New York City has seen a continuous and substantial decline of its industrial sector, with dramatic consequences for working class residents. Rezonings amplified these larger economic restructurings, allowing for the development of more profitable commercial and residential land uses, while displacing minority populations.
